Potter is a “one to one” school, meaning that each student receives a Chromebook to use for their studies. During registration fair, students will receive Chromebooks. A User Agreement is included in the registration packets. We ask every student to return the chromebook they have been issued in exchange for a new chromebook. Students have 6 periods in the day and an advisory class at the end of the day. Wednesdays are our early release day and students will be released at 2:15 p.m.

All students receive binders and planners and they will be given time to organize them in their classes. Students will write homework and learning objectives in their planners; Teachers and parents can use the planners as a communication tool. You can also find a copy of the student handbook in the planner. Students will develop the use of educational technology as a site wide goal. Another goal is to progress each student at least one year’s worth of academic growth in both ELA and Math. Students will have Thrively accounts. Thrively shows students their strengths and interests framed in terms of college and career readiness.

Our district has worked diligently to develop COVID safety plans and protocols with layered mitigation practices. Following the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) guidelines and the most recent San Diego County Public Health Orders, we have created a webpage for families explaining our safe return to school.

We will continue to develop the campus philosophy that all students will find greatness within themselves. A critical component to achievement is connectivity to school. This is one of the key reasons we practice our existing Leader in Me program. We use this program to instill the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens; the goal of which is to create more opportunities for teens to connect with school and develop traits of leadership and responsibility. We will also look to identify students’ individual strengths with a goal of developing tangible goals to provide future direction. We look forward to another great year and to seeing you very soon at the registration fair.

Sincerely,

Dr. Powers,

Principal, Potter Jr. High
